Analysis of A Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy Analysis of â€Å"The Darkling Thrush†, by Thomas Hardy As the title has already mentioned, this assignment will be an analysis on a poem by Thomas Hardy. The poem is called â€Å"The Darkling Thrush†, also known by another title, â€Å"By the Century’s deathbed†. My analysis will include elements such as the poems’ setting, structure, imagery, diction, rhyme scheme and theme. I will go into one element at the time, and them give examples from one stanza only in that element. I will not come back to the same elements in the other stanzas, even though they are there. Therefore, this will not be a complete analysis of every element in each of the stanzas. I’d rather prefer to give a thorough†¦show more content†¦4 The tangled bine-stems scored the sky 5 Like strings of broken lyres, 6 And all mankind that haunted nigh 7 Had sought their household fires. 8 Imagery: Through the use of personification, symbols, metaphors, alliteration (this last element may also refer to the poems structure) and a selected sort of words, he produces images in the readers mind, when all he really does is just speak from his inner state of mind, as modernists are soon to do. To show the use of imagery in this poem, I’ve taken its 2nd stanza as an example. Here he uses personification on the landscape, thereby referring to an inanimate object as if it were human. He compares the landscape to a dead body lying all around him, and the clouds becoming the coffins top, and the wind his death lament. The poet also makes use of alliteration in this poem. An example from this stanza is corpse, crypt, cloudy, canopy etc, where you easily notice the same sounds repeated several times. This has mostly a decorative effect, but it also makes you focus on these words, thereby revealing parts of the poem’s nature and temperament. Can’t you do something for me for once? † My voice rose to the level that I believe the people down the block could have heard me. He just looks at me and goes â€Å"blah, blah, blah, I’m not going anywhere,† and then I accelerate into psycho mode telling him that can’t take the fact that when I am sick he will do nothing for me but the rest of the time do everything for him. The more he acts like he doesn’t care that look like a lunatic, waving my arms and distorting my face into something scary, the more I realize it is hopeless and start to cry. He went back to his room to brood and I go feeling more exhausted and with a pounding headache go back to my heating pad and ice pack and fume. Second time was five minutes with an intensity of 2 Sunday 11/16 wage out for breakfast at Waffle House before going to church. There are no expectations on Sunday, except for him to accompany me to breakfast and church, which he does willingly without incident. My Summary of Road Warrior Essay Have you ever been driving the posted speed limit , and all of a sudden a young crazy teenage guy is tailgating you to the point where he is tapping your bumper? Road rage is a big problem in the United states. Whether it be driving too fast or tailgating. Behaviors that cause road rage also lead to parking lot rage, and shopping cart rage. Now not only is there road rage, there is also shopping cart rage, and parking lot rage. One main reason people get road rage is because there is always a hand full of people that dont know or that dont care that the left lane is the fast lane or the passing lane. These people drive on the left lane even though they are driving the speed limit or even below the speed limit. Nobody knows why these particular people drive in the left lane. The worst part is that there is nothing anyone can do to make these people move over to the right lane. People will try to honk, but more then half the time honking wont work. Another factor of road rage is the young teenager with the fast car and the loud music. Their music is so loud the bass rattles the cars around him. Not only is his music so loud but they insist on driving faster then the speed of light. If you make the mistake of getting in their way they will tailgate you or even bump you until you get out of there way. Teenage guys that drive too fast is not as bad as the people that drive too slow. As Barry says being trapped behind people drifting along on the interstate at the speed of diseased livestock.
